The secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (or secretary of state) is a post appointed by the governor of the state and confirmed by the state’s senate, and the secretary’s duty is to administer the department of state of Pennsylvania as the chief election official and keeper of the Great seal of the Commonwealth. 

The department is responsible for protecting public health’s safety, and welfare by licensing businesses, and health and real estate professionals; they also maintain the registration and financial information of charities soliciting a contribution from citizens, corporate filing, and others.

The business search can be done through the business division of the secretary of state for Pennsylvania. The business division handles the registry for the management and establishment of any business entity within the state.

The registry has information on businesses operating within the state, they include Limited liability companies, limited companies, partnerships, corporations, and others. The secretary of state creates policies for business entities and corporations, and they oversee all the commercial activities within the state.

The database has information that includes the expiration date of the license, the mailing address of businesses, business specifications, the purpose of the business, registered agents, directors, and others that will be pertinent to citizens. Subsistence certificates/Certificates of registration

As of July 2015, the department of the state of Pennsylvania changed the document name from a good standing certificate to a Subsistence certificate for domestic filing entities and a Certificate of registration for the registered foreign association.

Online filing

You can file your application to Pennfile electronically, though it will require human review. Also, note that there is a high volume of applications, you will need to have patience because the processing time varies, though, on completion, the document will be returned to you via email.

Online ordering

The department is working on digitizing its corporate database; therefore, some documents are readily available while others may require scanning; this implies that when you order a document that has not been scanned yet, it will have to ask within five working days for your order to be processed. On processing your order, you will be expected to invoice $3 per page of the document, and within 24 hours of the final payment, you will receive the document via your email.
