Organizations revolving around commercial activity

The Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) is one of the major government organizations for promoting and facilitating exports from Bangladesh. Established in 1977 and housed by the Ministry of Commerce, the EPB plays a vital role in implementing governmental policies intended to extend the global market for Bangladeshi products. EPB is expected to open doors for the Bangladeshi industries with respect to international markets, the economy of which depends mainly on exports, especially textiles, leather, jute, agroproducts, and IT services. It coordinates global trade fairs, cash, and other incentives for exporters and provides services to companies to meet export regulatory requirements. The EPB’s programs assist local industries in competing globally and improve Bangladesh’s standing in international commerce.

Functions

They include:

Export policy development

The Bureau collaborates with the Ministry of Commerce to define and implement export-friendly policies. It conducts research to study trade patterns and composes plans for making Bangladeshi exporters more competitive in international markets.

Market expansion and trade promotion

The EPB arranges international buyer-seller meetings, trade shows, and exhibits to broaden Bangladesh’s economic reach. Exporters may display their goods and form international commercial alliances at these events.

Financial assistance and export incentives

Firms can compete in the international markets under the EPB assistance scheme, which consists of financial assistance, duty waivers, and exports incentive. Additionally, other measures the government takes towards reducing expenses and increasing profit margins for sectors like apparel, information and communication technology (ICT) and agriculture include the provision of financial assistance to exporters.

Registration and certification for exports

Businesses must register with the EPB and receive an Export Registration Certificate (ERC) prior to exporting. Certificates of Origin, which are necessary to take advantage of tariff breaks and preferential trade agreements, are also issued by the agency.

Capacity building and training

In order to provide exporters the information and abilities they need to handle international trade laws, logistics, and compliance requirements, the Bureau offers training courses, seminars, and workshops.

Market research and analysis of trade data

To assist companies in locating possible export markets, the EPB carries out trade data analysis and market research. It gives exporters useful information on pricing policies, demand patterns, and international trade laws.

When businesses engage the EPB

They include:

Registration of export enterprises

The Bureau must first issue an Export Registration Certificate (ERC) to companies wishing to export. Businesses wishing to export products or services from Bangladesh must get this certificate.

Putting together an application for export incentives

Businesses must apply via the EPB in order to get financial assistance from the government. Cash incentives, duty deductions, and tax exemptions lower operating costs for exporters in important industries including textiles, jute, leather, and medicines.

Taking part in expos and trade shows

The EPB hosts worldwide business conferences, trade shows, and exhibits for companies wishing to grow globally. These gatherings provide exporters a chance to display their goods and network with foreign consumers.

Acquiring origin certificates

Certificate of Origin is to be obtained from EPB by the companies, if they desire to enjoy reduced tariffs or the duty-free access while exporting under preferential trade agreements. Such agreements are Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) or South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA).

Ensuring export regulation adherence

International regulatory requirements regarding fisheries, agriculture, medicine, etc., are crucial. The Bureau is also involved in the compliance of firms with export laws, quality standards, and documentation procedures to achieve smooth export processes.

Obtaining trade insights and market research

Trade statistics, economic analysis, and market research studies from EPB are useful for companies preparing to enter new markets. Exporters may better comprehend pricing tactics, customer demand, and competitive positioning in global marketplaces with the use of these information.

Programs for training and skill development

The EPB offers training programs on export processes, logistics, and customs rules to new and small exporters. These seminars assist companies in becoming knowledgeable about international trade procedures and avoiding typical export-related problems.

Dealing with export issues and trade barriers

The EPB is available to help exporters who are dealing with trade barriers, logistical difficulties, payment delays, or regulatory concerns. To remove these barriers and promote efficient corporate operations, the bureau collaborates with governmental organizations and global trade associations.
